Making the most of unused space: An Under-Deck Trolley Build
Every home has space that can be put to better use. That gap under the deck — too low to stand in, too awkward to stack things in, too easy to ignore — is one of the most common offenders.
One of our clients had exactly this problem. The space under their deck was going to waste, and they needed somewhere practical to store materials and supplies out of the elements. The solution turned out to be sitting right in front of us — a redundant pallet that became the foundation for a custom built storage trolley.

The Solution
The pallet was the starting point, but a pallet alone doesn't roll, and rolling was the whole point. The under-deck space was accessible but tight, so whatever we built needed to move in and out easily without lifting.
We constructed a timber frame around the pallet base — cross-braced for rigidity and sized precisely to fit the available clearance under the deck. Clamps kept everything square while we drilled and secured the joins. Getting the dimensions right here was critical — too wide and it wouldn't slide in, too narrow and it would rattle around uselessly.

Once the frame was solid, we fitted heavy duty swivel castors at each corner. The bright orange wheels weren't just a practical choice — rated for serious load bearing, they can handle the weight of whatever gets stacked on top and roll smoothly across rough ground.

The finished trolley slides neatly under the deck, loads up with ease and rolls out just as smoothly when you need access.
The Result
Dead space converted into practical, accessible storage — for not much more than the cost of a set of wheels.
